Weight Surfing and WIN
Gliding
gracefully under the falling crest of an emerald wave
a large surfer somehow fit his xxl
size body into a compact mini size tube. Making small
turns and adjustments as called for, the surfer
flawlessly traveled across the entire reef inside the
folding wave. Water sparkled of his tan skin as the
large surfer emerged from the shadowy
innards of the small wave, out of the tube and into
the sunlight. With a smile seemingly bigger than his
large body the surfer let out a loud
shout of excitement and prepared to catch another wave.
The largest surfer can surf
the smallest wave, the smallest surfer
can surf the largest wave. Surfers
over 250 pounds such as Junior Moepono, David Stant,
and Buffalo Kealana: proved big guys can surf
small waves as smooth and elegant as a ballerina can
perform dance. Surfers of less than
140 pounds such as Noah Johnson and Michael Ho have
proven no wave is to big for them or others their size
to surf. It is not so much the physical
weight a surfer carries on the outside
that determines surfing performance
but rather the mental weight a surfer
carries on the inside.
How much a surfer actually weighs
is determined by what he feels and mental weight he
carries within. A surfer facing life-affecting
challenges may feel like he has the weight of the world
on his shoulders. Another surfer facing
the same situation feels as if a tremendous weight has
been lifted and he can almost fly. Weighted down with
problems or predisposed thoughts some surfers cannot
bring themselves to paddle out. Their footprints in
the sand are deep from carrying a heavy load. Smart
surfers leave the heavy load and mental
weight back on shore where it belongs and then paddle
out.
Through out time great thinkers and spiritual leaders
have advised mankind to stay away from attachment to
materialism, eroticism, egotism and more. Wise men understand
for physical and mental well being one cannot carry
a heavy load inside forever. With out a break the man
carrying a heavy load will break. The man who rests
in between carrying a heavy load remains resilient and
able to keep going. From time to time world leaders
take vacations; indigenous people take walk abouts and
surfers surf to get away from things
and to become more in touch with the deeper part of
their soul. They return rejuvenated with fresh perspective,
new improved outlook, emotionally and mentally fortified,
ready to take on the world. When carrying a heavy load,
do all you can, go as far as you can and a little further,
then take a breather.
Anyone can lose weight physically losing weight mentally
is another story. Sometimes it is hard to let go of
emotional or mental attachments even for a moment. When
a surfer is tied down with overwhelming
worries of the unlived future or concerns of the past
long lived he will become dull to the moment and serendipity.
Opportunity can be knocking they will not hear, opportunity
could be standing directly in front and they will not
see. Surfers with open clear minds
are receptive to the situation at hand. By remaining
clear and open mentally their vision of hope becomes
sharper and their sight for opportunity more clear.
Surfing is a wonderful means for personal
growth and excellent opportunity to make contact with
onefs deeper soul. A surfer riding a wave
is completely detached from the weight of the world
and all itfs challenges. While the ride may end quickly
the mental and emotional benefits of surfing
will last and go on. Surfing is riding
with whatever scene you find yourself in, being in the
now, keeping an open mind. If you are a mother, business
person, friend, or even struggling artist make sure
you take time to recharge so you can continue to charge
those around you. Minds filled up with thoughts, feelings
and emotions leave little room for the immediate experience.
Just like a dazzling surfer riding
a wave drop the mental weight that holds many back from
fully experiencing the present. When you lose the weight
you gain the freedom, super-consciousness, and heightened
awareness to experience the magnificence of life to
its fullest. Live right and surf lite.
Sea you in the surf.
