A
Thanksgiving Attitude Brings Everything Up
Thanksgiving
is a time when Americans recognize and focus on the
wonderful blessings that surround us and fill our lives.
Genuine gratitude helps us appriecite the world around
us. It also helps us to be more positive about our life
situations. This does not mean failing to recognize
or ignoring problems and discomforts but rather seeing
the best even in what could be considered the worst
situations. Remember, where you think you are, there
you are.
The Heisenberg
theory of uncertainty suggests The observer changes
the outcome. This truth can be viewed with this simple
sociological experiment: The next time you see a surfer
coming in after riding some Pacific rollers ask him
or her how the surf was. Wait until more surfers come
in, in turn ask them the same question. Chances are
you will get different answers from each individual
ranging from gSurffs junkh to g wow, really fun!h
Each surferfs observations determined how they experienced
the surf.
How can
two or more surfers riding the same waves at the same
time be in such disagreement?
Everything
including surfing is affected by our attitude. Life
is what we make it, and it is our intrepertation of
each moment that infulences and defines our realities.
One of the
most recognized surfers of today is Kelly Slater from
Florida. While Florida does get good waves, itfs doubtful
it would make the list of top ten places to surf or
even top 100 for that matter. The waves in Florida are
generally small and often windy with choppy conditions.
Many times the wind chops are larger than the waves.
This did
not stop a young Slater who surfed incessantly in all
conditions. He was thankful just to be in the ocean
regardless of the quality of the waves.
A friend
related a happen chance meeting with the energetic Florida
gremmie years back. While entering the beach to go surfing
he encountered a dripping wet surfer and asked him how
the surf was. The surfer replied, g Itfs not worth
going out. The waves take a long time to come and when
they do come they are really weak barely able to push
a rider.h
A few feet
following was the young and upcoming Kelly Slater. When
asked the same question Slater replied, gSo fun, not
a whole lot of waves but it feels good just going into
the water getting in a turn or two.h
Even as
a young grommet Slater was humble and thankful for what
he had.
The now
6 times world champion surfer is still thankful for
lifefs blessings and demonstrates this by giving back
to our community. In addition to being a world class
surfer-inspiring thousands Slater speaks out at schools,
lends his name and time to worthwhile organizations
and is involved with activities beneficial to many people.
As Americanfs
with our freedom of choices, we have much to be thankful
for. Looking at the positive side of life helps bring
everything up and helps everyone to have a better attitude.
Give thanks. Happy Thanksgiving.
