Winning With Will Power
Surfing
contests have been around since the very beginning.
Ancient Hawaiians loved to gamble and many times bets
were placed on the outcome of surfing contests. Sometimes
whole fortunes and possessions were wagered in these
early surfing contests. Prestige and honor were on the
line. Today there are surfing contests held worldwide
for boys and girls, pros and amateurs of every age.
Competition can be very stiff. How do certain surfers
manage to win surfing challenges, often beating out
better surfers than themselves? Will power.
There
is only one way to out perform others who may be stronger,
faster, or more skilled. Will power. First and foremost
develop the will to win.
Some surfers take surfing contests very seriously. For
these surfers, competition is everything and their will
to win intense. Surfers who take surfing competition
seriously, live, breath and surf to win contests. When
they are not surfing they are cross training for surfing.
Those at the top fully put their will into mind, body
and soul in hot pursuit of winning. Driven by shear
will surfers work intensely and exclusively with only
one purpose o success. They will not tire in this pursuit
nor become discouraged. Willpower produces strength
to endure. Will power is one of the most powerful forces
known to mankind and is the real beginning of all success.
Michael Ho from Hawaii is a surfer recognized the world-over
for his surfing expertise and surfing contest results.
Not the biggest guy, Ho rides the biggest waves and
the smallest with dazzling fluid turns, ultra deep positioning,
and super keen timing. Ho has been winning contests
for over forty years, and doesn't appear to be slowing
down. There is no doubt about Ho's surfing skill; he
is one of the best of all time. One of the secrets to
Ho's surfing success is utilizing steadfast, unrelenting,
will power, something everyone can do.
The "W" in will stands for work. Ho does the
hard work it takes to be a winner. There are no short
cuts to victory. Ho studies the competition, devises
a strategy and then goes out surfing circles around
the competition. Many surfers Ho has beaten were faster,
stronger, and more athletic. Ho proved mentally tougher,
wanting the victory more by working harder for it. A
strong and positive will is crucial to winning. So is
hard work.
Surfers like Ho win often because they learn and improve
when defeated. Will power turns temporary defeats into
long lasting advantages. After any defeat you can bet
Ho was analyzing every detail, making adjustments in
strategy and equipment, to ensure later victory. Ho
has won contests worldwide including the prestigious
Pipeline Masters (with a broken wrist) as well as the
triple crown of surfing on Hawaii's famous North Shore.
Ho has also lost, many times. What is important is he
never let defeat stand in the way of his progress or
dampen his will to win. In fact temporary defeat strengthened
his will and resolve to win.
Next
to rising to the top of professional surfing, nothing
is more difficult than staying there. Despite surfing
against competitors half his age, Ho continues to be
a winner.
Winning is not an accident, winning is a result. The
result of willpower and the hard work it takes to win.
Winning is a full time pursuit. Michael Ho is living
proof. Winners increase their chances of winning by
having the will to win and doing the work it takes to
win.
Ultimately, unlike other sports, when it comes to surfing
contests, there really are no losers, only winners.
When it comes to surfing, just being in the water is
winning. Everyone can increase their chances of winning
in life by developing the will to win and working for
victory. Sea you in the surf.
