Surfers Go for Their Dreams
Standing on the shoreline of life, surfers
gaze longingly into the deep blue ocean of dreams. Some
will grab their surfboards heading out faithfully into
a destiny yet to be realized. Others uninterested or
held back by fears, never leave the shore. Endless waves
of love, happiness and harmony await all who dare to
paddle out. So does the possibility of wiping-out. Getting
off the beach requires a heart filled with courage and
a soul overflowing with hope. Dreams like waves donft
come to surfers, surfers must go to the waves.
Some surfers will experience waves of glory and success,
while others will know the impact of disaster. Every
surfer has their day on the waves where they can do
no wrong. Every surfer also wipes out- that is if they
paddle out. Surfing wouldnft be exciting if there were
no wipeouts nor would there be any reason to focus or
anything to learn. A perfect world in which wipeouts
did not exist would not be perfect at all. An ancient
surfing axiom states, gIt is much better to surf a wave
and wipeout than to never surf at all.h
All great surfers had to begin at some time. When we
see someone surfing with marvelous timing, expert proficiency,
and dazzling style, itfs easy to forget that at one
time they had to brave a first wave. No one starts out
a surfing master. In fact, each step of the way master
surfers begin anew from were they left off. Master surfers
realize they are perfect being imperfect; there is perfection
in imperfection. No two waves are ever alike, there
is no one perfect wave nor one perfect way to surf.
By beginning again each time the surfing experience
is always fresh, exciting, and forever new.
Though they may have experienced 100,000 waves, master
surfers approach each wave individually and in the now.
Each wave has its own individual signature which master
surfers learn to tune into. In order to do this, both
self-awareness and awareness of your environment have
to be at the highest levels. Each challenge we face
offers an opportunity for us to experience and develop
complete and full, awareness.
In order to live a dream, one must first reach for it.
One must go after dreams like surfers go after waves
with 100 percent full commitment, heart, and soul. It
takes courage to go after lofty aspirations especially
if at the time they seem impossible. If you desire to
do or experience something new for the first time, let
nothing impede your forward progress. To realize honorable,
pure and noble dreams, you first have to go for them.
The journey of a master surfer starts with a single
wave. Sea you in the surf.
