Surfing's 7 Deadly Sins

In surfing, the surfing deadly sins are exactly that, deadly. Committing these sins can instantly cause intense physical and spiritual consequences that are of equal or greater value to the offence committed.

Wave hogging- Don't be a wave hogging surfer. Surfers with an inordinate desire to consume more than their natural share of waves are dangerous to themselves and others. The surfer in tune with the ocean and life catches a lot of waves, not all the waves. A wise surfer knows how to share.

Surf rage - Don't be a snapping surfer. In surfing as in life you reap what you sow. Go surfing with bad vibrations and your bound to attract bad vibrations. One bad attitude can spoil the whole surfing line up. Practice the ABC's of surfing, Always Be Cool.

Rubber-arming- Don't be a rubber arming surfer. Surfers with rubber arms pretend to paddle, but go nowhere. Hesitating surfers miss the wave and a golden opportunity for success. Sometimes hesitating surfers suffer an even worse fate by getting pitched over the falls of a breaking wave. When you are in the right position with everything lined up perfectly go for it full heartedly and with 100% commitment.

Stiffness- Don't be a stiff surfer. Stiff surfers don't go with the flow thus forcing things to be unnecessarily difficult for themselves and others. Flexible surfers who go with the flow are able to tap into the oceans power and use it to their advantage. Stiff surfers go against the power of the ocean and end up defeated and worn down. Flexible surfers can effortlessly surf tidal waves when they go with the flow.

Big ego's - Don't be an egotist. When a surfer starts thinking himself higher than the waves, the ocean will bring him down to the bottom with the force of humility. There is always a wave out there more powerful than you. Inflated self-importance shows lack of respect for the ocean and others. Surfers who know the true power of the ocean become one with the waves and show respect by remaining humble.

Acting stupid - Don't act stupid. When a surfer is in the ocean, acting stupid is never advantageous. Surfers who don't pay attention to their surrounds and environment pay dearly and suffer great losses. Enlightened surfers use all the senses to be fully aware including sight, sound, touch, taste and intuition, stacking the odds in their favor. Surf riding connects the waves, mind and body, which results in the highest intelligence, surfing super awareness.

Whining- Don't be an ingrate. Every wave, every breath of air, every moment in life is a precious gift that counts no matter how ephemeral it seems. Surfers who don't appreciate the small waves, never appreciate the big ones. Rather than focus on waves they don't have, real surfers appreciate the waves they do have by remaining appreciative and grateful.
